Some futures prop firm accounts permit trading around economic releases, while others require you to close positions during specified event windows. The correct answer depends on the exact plan and account stage. A firm-wide “news allowed” label is insufficient when one funded product has different rules from another.

Start with your account’s current agreement, then check the provider’s event list and timing convention. Keep the rule separate from your decision about whether an event trade fits your available loss allowance. Permission to trade does not make the execution predictable or protect your account from a breach.

Use the news-trading firm comparison to shortlist accounts, then check the exact plan and stage against the official rules below.

Current examples from official policies

These examples were checked on October 4, 2026. They illustrate why comparing account names matters; they are not a complete ranking of every firm.

Take Profit Trader’s PRO+ policy also identifies prohibited releases and requires positions and orders to be cleared one minute before, during and one minute after them. Read the specific account policy rather than assuming a change of account stage removes the restriction. Official PRO+ rules.

A worked example: an 8:30 release

Suppose a hypothetical account prohibits positions and working orders from one minute before through one minute after an 8:30 AM event. Its restricted interval runs from 8:29 through 8:31, using the provider’s stated time zone. This example describes timing, not an invitation to place an order at the boundary.

At 8:27, your checklist should already distinguish three separate items: the open position, an unfilled entry order, and attached protective orders. Closing a position does not prove that every remaining order was canceled. Inspect the account’s actual positions and order list after taking action.

If you manage three accounts, record the result for each. An empty chart on the selected account does not demonstrate that the other two are flat. A disconnected platform creates uncertainty; it is not evidence that exposure disappeared. Leave enough operational time to resolve a mismatch before the restriction begins.

After the event, verify that the restriction has ended and that your account state is correct. Waiting beyond the boundary can provide operational margin, but there is no universal delay that eliminates price or execution risk.

Build a rule sheet that answers five questions

Which account? Record the product name, stage and agreement version. An evaluation rule should not silently carry over to a funded account.

Which events? Copy the relevant event categories into your planning notes and link the provider’s calendar. “Major news” is too vague to operate from. If an announcement changes time, your old screenshot is not the current schedule.

Which clock? Record the time zone and check daylight-saving differences. Use the economic calendar as a planning aid, then reconcile it with the provider’s designated source.

Which actions? Distinguish opening, holding, closing and leaving pending orders. If the wording is unclear, get clarification before the event and retain the response with the account record.

Which consequence? Identify whether the rule describes a breach, a profit adjustment or a payout condition. Those outcomes cannot be treated as interchangeable.

Compare risk and cost alongside permission

Create a scenario with your intended stop distance, quantity and estimated costs in the futures calculator. Then use the risk calculator to examine sizing assumptions. A calculator can make arithmetic explicit; it cannot predict the fill price or decide whether a provider will accept a trade.

Keep a separate field for the account’s remaining loss allowance. A large advertised account size does not tell you how much room remains before its threshold. Compare this allowance with planned exposure before using price or a promotion as the deciding factor.

Frequently asked questions

Which prop firm is best for news trading?

There is no universal answer. Shortlist accounts whose written rules fit your intended activity, then compare drawdown, execution environment, costs and payout conditions. This article does not rate execution quality from policy wording alone.

Can I leave a limit order active while I am flat?

Do not assume so. A flat position and a pending order are different account states. Check whether the relevant restriction covers both; the worked example above deliberately includes both.

Does “news allowed” waive every other rule?

No. Review the entire account rule set. For example, Tradeify separately describes funded-account holding-time criteria associated with payout eligibility. A news permission should not be read as a waiver of those conditions. [Tradeify trader guidelines](https://help.tradeify.co/en/articles/10468318-guidelines-for-traders).
